Friends of Scouting

Friends of Scouting is the annual campaign where the Heart of Ohio Council, BSA asks Scouting families, businesses, and civic-minded citizens to support our mission of providing our local Scouting program to thousands of youth in our council. Our 2016 campaign has already begun and we are excited to share that we are scheduling Family (unit) FOS Scouting presentation.

During the months of November through March, each pack, troop, crew and post needs to schedule a "Family" Friends of Scouting presentation. This presentation explains to parents how our council is financed and educates them about our wonderful facilities. To schedule your presentation, please complete the following form and return to our Mansfield Service Center… PDF File    Word File   Online Form

Why should I give to Friends of Scouting? Friends of Scouting  provides roughly one seventh of the money needed to operate the Heart of Ohio Council, BSAs Scouting camp, programs, and facilities for a calendar year. These camping and training facilities are the "outdoor classrooms" in which Scouts have fun, learn leadership skills, and develop into better young men and women. The council spends approximately $160 per Scout each year to deliver these benefits and much more.

I already paid my childs registration and his unit collects annual dues. Havent I already supported Scouting? Your childs registration fee goes directly to the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America. If your childs Scouting unit collects dues, that money stays with the unit to help pay for trips and other activities. None of that money helps the council pay for the following:
  • Maintaining our camping properties at Firelands Scout Reservation.
  • Training thousands of adult volunteer leaders in areas such as Youth Protection, Cub Scout / Boy Scout Leader Specifics, Outdoor Leadership Training, and much more.
  • Providing programs like Cub Scout day camp, Cub Scout Resident camp, Webelos resident camp, and Boy Scout summer camp.
We need your support!
The annual Friends of Scouting campaign is an opportunity for communities, businesses, and families to support the Scouting movement in the Heart of Ohio Council.

During the months of November through March, each pack, troop, crew and post needs to schedule a "Family" Friends of Scouting presentation. This presentation explains to parents how our council is financed and educates them about our wonderful facilities.

The annual "Friends of Scouting" drive raises approximately 14% of the operating budget each year. On average, $160 per youth is needed to provide programs for one year.
