Friends of Scouting

What is Friends of Scouting?

Friends of Scouting is the annual campaign where the Heart of Ohio Council asks Scouting families, businesses and civic-minded citizens to support our mission of providing the Scouting program to tens of thousands of young people in our Council.

Why should I give to Friends of Scouting?

Friends of Scouting provides roughly one third of the money needed to operate the Heart of Ohio Council's Scouting camp, programs and facilities for a calendar year. These camping and training facilities are the "outdoor classrooms" in which Scouts have fun, learn leadership skills and develop into better young men and women. The Council spends approximately $120 per Scout each year to deliver these benefits and much more.

I already paid my child's registration and his unit collects annual dues. Haven't I already supported Scouting?

Your child's registration fee goes directly to the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America. If your child's Scout unit collects dues, that money stays with the unit to help pay for trips and other activities. None of that money helps the Council pay for:

  • Maintaining our camping properties at Firelands Scout Reservation.

  •

  • Training thousands of adult volunteer leaders in areas such as Youth Protection, Cub/Boy Scouts Specific Leadership, New Leader Essentials, Outdoor Leadership Training and much more.

  •

  • Providing programs like Cub Scout Day Camp, Cub Resident’s Camp, Webelo Resident’s Camp, and Boy Scout Summer Camp.

We need your support!

The annual Friends of Scouting campaign is an opportunity for communities, businesses and families to support the Scouting Movement in the Heart of Ohio Council.

During the months of November through March, each Pack, Troop, Crew and Post should schedule a "Family" Friends of Scouting presentation. This presentation explains to parents how our Council is financed and educates them about our wonderful facilities.

The annual "Friends of Scouting" drive raises approximately 20% of the operating budget each year. On average, $150 per youth is needed to provide programs for one year.

Contact the Assistant Scout Executive for more information and how to support the Council at 419-207-8300.
